Say Cheese

What exciting news…. To be written up by Daily Candy is such an honor. Thank you so much.

Not in a chair. Not with a bear.
Not with that dorky parted hair.
I do not like this anywhere.
I do not like this, Sam I Am.

Neither does photog Samantha Scott (a.k.a. Sam I Am), whose photo shoots are a welcome break from the ho-hum studio variety.

You supply the outfits, toys, costumes (and kid), then stand back while the two of them go on a playdate with her camera.

She’ll climb trees, build sand castles, or chase after bubbles, all the while capturing your child’s natural and unforced expressions.

Leaving you to say: Thank you! Thank you, Sam I Am!

These boys are at the age where….everything is just one step away….

so much fun to photograph little boys…

Andrew has one look, but it’s a killer… “blue steel”.

It took some planning and a few helping hands….but the results were well worth it. Ziah, my daughter finally I found the time to photograph her as I do for everyone else. With wardrobe change, bubble machine, and all. I thought i would share them with everyone…..

Even as a photographer, capturing an image  where you actually freeze a moment in time is….priceless.

A perfect day in the park

what a beautiful little girl

what a beautiful little girl

it is always nice to photograph one of your oldest friends children. These two have amazing parents and it shows in the photos…how happy they are. Boys and girls are so different….

These kids and dozens of others, all housed in group homes or with foster-care families, are eager for families to adopt them. The Miami Heart Gallery, an initiative spearheaded by The Children’s Trust, hopes to make those dreams come true.

I participated in photographing some of the children for the Miami Heart Gallery. I can’t even put into words what I felt. These children are so loving, and happy. Most of these kids have gone through what most people don’t see in a life time. I photographed 10 children for the exhibit. Amongst them were three sisters Inez, Sametrice and Keondra, all full of life, an adorable little boy, Epson, and four siblings all under the age of 8, Zakira, Antonio, Moena and Jamesha. I had so much fun photographing these kids.

I tried to capture photographs of them that would talk to you…i believe it is all in the eyes, and the smiles. With the younger ones it wasn”t easy, good thing I had lollipops. A little bribery goes along way.

Look at the images that we captured, watch the video, listen to their stories….every time i watch it….i cry.

It was my pleasure spending the day with the children in the Botanical Garden in Miami.

Everyone needs love…not just babies. If you meet these children, you’ll see how resilient they are and how much hope they have. All they need is a little attention and to be loved.

I need a class in how to blog….There is so much to know and learn….

Any tips would be great.

KEY BISCAYNE MAG

More than anything, Ziah loves to interact with other kids. And it’s great to watch her do so.

Some kids watch and carefully choose the kids they want to play with. Ziah doesn’t wait for introductions, if she likes you, she is all over you within seconds. Like they have been best friends forever. Of course, it’s not always easy for her. Like the rest of us, she’s learning what it’s like to interact with different kinds of people – some troubled and not very nice. Ziah has so many different friends of all ages, she plays well with everyone, even the older ones. Ever 2 year old is learning to share and not everything is “MINE”. On the most part No struggles. No issues. No push-pull. They take turns letting the other lead. They share toys. They play dress-up, cooking in the kitchen, or a tea party and enter each other’s world of imagination. It’s quite remarkable to watch.

I’ve learned so much from watching my daughter with other kids. Her ease and acceptance has taught me a great deal about building relationships around my business. And I try to carry some of these traits into my business relationships.

Things like:

     1.     Be nice: Mainly, there’s just few reasons not to be.

     2.     Be honest: You’ll both know something’s off if you’re not.

     3.     Be open: Sometimes people will surprise you with what they have to teach you.

     4.     Be creative: There really is more than one way.

     5.     Be caring: Your clients will feel it when they know you sincerely care about their needs.

     6.     Be real: Remember, along with being a professional, you’re also a person.

     7.     Be giving: There’s little reason to hold back from sharing what you know – it will pay in the end.

     8.     Be fun: Likely, you’re in business because you love what you do – share and show it.

     9.     Be consumed: Get lost in ‘the play’ of your working with people. Then come back when your time with them is done.

     10.     Be humble: If you’re truly great at what you do, it never needs to be said.

     11.     Be kind: Even with people who are not kind to you.

     12.     Be excited: Little is more valuable then letting your passion flow.

And…be memorable. Striving to live these twelve qualities has led me to relationships – business and personal – that are beyond any of my expectations. I’m just grateful that I get to learn them from such a lovely teacher.

“Be discerning: If a relationship (business or otherwise) generates negative energy or regresses from a relationship to a one-way street, perhaps it’s time to drop that relationship and re-focus your energy on more positive pursuits.”

Isn’t it amazing that we “are” these things when we are little, then we “learn”, well are taught to not be that way as we grow older? As a child I tried new things all the time and never stopped to say but what if I fail. As adults we become consumed with the possibility of failure to the extent we often completely refuse to act. Why is that. I am trying very hard to reprogram myself. Imagine what we would all accomplish if we no longer feared failure.
